The World Parajiujitsu Federation is participating this Tuesday (November 25th) in an institutional meeting with Palms Sports in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to present the Brazilian model of sports development and share experiences on inclusive sports.

Palms Sports is one of the leading sports organizations in the United Arab Emirates, operating in martial arts programs, athlete training, organization of sporting events, and community sports projects, with a focus on jiu-jitsu, MMA, and other combat sports.

The Parajiujitsu model currently practiced has its rules, functional classification, and scientific registration developed in the laboratory of the Brazilian Federation of Paralympic Jiu-Jitsu (FBJJP), in the city of Barra do Garças, Mato Grosso, Brazil. The category is practiced in more than 46 countries, including Japan, China, Thailand, and Germany. The modality is open to athletes with disabilities and encompasses approximately 29 types of disabilities, offering opportunities for inclusion and promotion of adapted sports.

In addition to its competitive nature, the sport is also used as a rehabilitation tool, assisting people in different situations, from stroke victims to war victims, as is the case in countries like Ukraine. Its inclusive approach allows people with different physical and cognitive needs to participate actively, promoting health, discipline, and self-esteem.

The development of Parajiujitsu in Brazil and its international projection have the support of public institutions, such as the Government of the State of Mato Grosso, through the work of the world ambassador of Parajiujitsu and national godmother, Virginia Mendes, the state’s first lady, who contributes to consolidating the modality as a reference in sports inclusion.

Elcirley Silva, president of the federation and member of the JJIF council, highlights the opportunity to be with Palms Sports. “It’s a very important moment to present the work we’ve developed in Brazil and share the experience of inclusive jiu-jitsu with international institutions. Our goal is for more and more people around the world to have the opportunity to benefit from Parajiujitsu, promoting health, discipline, and social inclusion,” said the professor.

Tuesday’s meeting reinforces the role of Mato Grosso, as well as Brazil, as a global reference in Parajiujitsu, and highlights the sport’s potential to impact lives in different parts of the world, expanding access to inclusive sports practice and providing opportunities for people of all ages and physical conditions.
